Mercadona has applied discounts on more than 200 products in its catalogue, as can be seen on its website, with the aim of offering more competitive prices at a time when many consumers pay special attention to the price of the shopping basket.
The sales affect common products, such as rice, coffee, eggs, cheeses, meat products or cookies. Added to these discounts are some temporary promotions that were already active since February in different references.
Mercadona lowers the price of eggs
One of the most notable changes occurs in the price of eggs, a product that had uploaded in recent months and had generated complaints among consumers. The new egg prices look like this:
- Eggs (24 units): from €5.75 to €5.60
- XL size eggs (12 units): from €4.40 to €4.30
- L size eggs (12 units): from €3.30 to €3.20
- M size eggs (12 units): from €3.10 to €3.00
- Free-range eggs (12 units): from €3.70 to €3.50
- Free-range eggs (6 units): from €2.20 to €2.10
The sales also affect rice, coffee, cheese and other products in the shopping cart.
The reduction is not limited to eggs, it also affects other basic foods. For example, long rice drops from 1.35 to 1.25 euros per kilo and basmati rice goes from 2.20 to 2.10 euros. In addition, the prices of some coffee references are also reduced, such as half-kilo strong ground coffee, which drops from 5.30 to 4.90 euros, and several varieties of coffee in capsules, which reduce their price by around ten cents per box.
Price drops are also recorded in the dairy and derivatives section. For example, fresh mozzarella goes from 1 to 0.90 euros and sliced gouda cheese goes from 2.35 to 2.15 euros. The prices of other common products are also reduced, such as sliced cooked ham, which goes from 2.35 to 2.25 euros, and cookie-type cookies, which go down from 1.55 to 1.45 euros.
In addition to these products, Mercadona has also applied discounts on other items in its assortment, both manufacturer brands and its own brand. These include drinks, soft drinks, beers, household cleaning products, personal hygiene items, snacks, cereals or dairy products, whose new prices can be consulted both in the chain’s online store and in its supermarkets.
Coinciding with these developments, the chain has also put its popular torrijas on sale again, a typical Easter sweet that has already returned to its shelves.
