Spaniards may receive complementary aid of up to 4,000 euros to hire domestic employees and cover 100% of Social Security contributions, according to the law.

Reconciling in Spain continues to be, for many families, an impossible puzzle: full days, small children, dependent grandparents and a mortgage that doesn’t wait. In this context, hiring a domestic worker to care for minors or dependents is usually more of a necessity than a luxury, but labor costs hold back many households.

The Community of Madrid has put on the table a measure that can make a difference: complementary aid of up to 4,000 euros to cover, in some cases, 100% of the Social Security contributions of these workers, as long as it involves care at home and certain income and cohabitation requirements are met.

Up to 4,000 euros and 100% of the fees

The Community of Madrid will allocate 2.3 million euros to this aid to support the hiring of domestic workers dedicated to the care of children under 12 years of age, young people with disabilities up to 18 years of age or dependents living at the same address.

The subsidy covers labor costs for the year prior to the application and can reach a maximum of 4,000 euros per household, linked to the amount of Social Security contributions paid by the employer.

In families with income per capita less than 20,000 euros, the aid can reach 100% of these contributions, in the case of single-parent families this threshold is extended to incomes of 30,000 euros.

The program finances contracts of at least 58 calendar days, continuous or not, whether the contract is temporary or indefinite, as long as it is a single person employed as a domestic worker or several people hired successively.

The activity must be carried out at the employer’s domicile within the Community of Madrid and, as a general rule, those who request aid must work as self-employed or employed full-time during the subsidized period.

Real conciliation and formal employment

This aid not only relieves household pockets, it also pushes to formalize a sector where a lot of shadow work still persists. By linking the subsidy to the contributions actually paid to Social Security, families are encouraged to register the household employee and comply with all work obligations.

For many couples with small children or families who care for a dependent person at home, knowing that they can recover up to 4,000 euros in a year makes it more acceptable to hire professional support and reduce the burden that today falls, almost always on parents.

The application can be processed until April 30 through the Digital Administration of the Community of Madrid, a key deadline for those who want to plan the school year or the care of a dependent family member with a little more margin and less financial burden.
