March is coming and, with it, the need to balance the monthly expenses of rent, mortgage or supplies, which is why many unemployed people need to know when unemployment benefits are collected this month. The State Public Employment Service (SEPE) pays all unemployment benefits and subsidies starting on the 10th of each month or, if that day is a holiday, the next business day, as explained on its website.
This month of March, as the 10th falls on a Tuesday and is a business day, there should not be any type of delay. Now, there are banking entities such as Banco Santander or Openbank that voluntarily decide to advance the payment a few days, thanks to what is known as the Single Centralized Account with the General Treasury of Social Security (TGSS) that allows them to know who the beneficiaries are and what amount they should collect.
Below, these are the estimated dates for collection of the unemployment benefit Depending on the bank or savings bank:
- Banco Santander: starting Thursday, March 5.
- Openbank: starting Thursday, March 5.
- BBVA: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- CaixaBank: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Bankinter: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Unicaja: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Imaginbank: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Ibercaja: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Abanca: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Banco Sabadell: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- ING: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Cajasur: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Cajamar: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Box seven: starting Tuesday, March 10.
- Rural Savings Banks: as each province has a different Rural Savings Bank, the dates may vary. Most pay it on the 10th.
How do I know how much I will collect in unemployment this month?
Through the SEPE Electronic Headquarters you can consult both the status of the benefit and the amount that will be charged. The amount of the contributory benefit depends directly on your regulatory base (the average of the contribution bases of the last 180 days worked). The following sections apply to it:
- 70% of the regulatory base during the first six months (180 days). For example, with a previous payroll of 1,200 euros gross, you will earn 840 euros per month.
- 60% of the regulatory base from the seventh month (day 181). Following the example of 1,200 euros, the amount will drop to 720 euros per month.
There are also maximum limits conditioned by family responsibilities: 1,225 euros (without children), 1,400 euros (one child) or 1,575 euros (two or more children).
For those who exhaust unemployment or do not have sufficient contributions, unemployment benefits are calculated on the Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator (IPREM) with this progressive scale:
- During the first 180 days: 95% of the IPREM, that is, 570 euros per month.
- From day 181 to day 360: 90% of the IPREM, that is, 540 euros per month.
- Starting on day 361: 80% of the IPREM, that is, 480 euros per month.
- In the case of the subsidy for those over 52 years of age, 80% of the IPREM (480 euros) is always collected until reaching retirement age.
If I lose my job this month, when will I collect unemployment benefits?
People who have lost their job this month should know that the right to the benefit arises the day after the legal situation of unemployment. Once the application is submitted (usually the day we request an appointment), the SEPE takes up to 15 business days to resolve the request and up to 10 more business days to notify the resolution, which can lengthen the process up to 25 calendar days (the data is indicative).
In this way, if an unemployed person submits the application after the 20th, it is possible that the SEPE will not pay the benefit that month and collect it the next, but they will collect everything, that is, what was pending plus the new monthly payment. In no case will the worker lose money.
