Retirees who will collect 6,719.20 euros at the end of November or more from Social Security

At the end of this month of November, Social Security will pay the payroll and extra Christmas pay to the nearly 9.6 million pensioners in Spain. This means, in most cases, a double income that helps pensioners meet the expenses of the Christmas season. Some of these retirees will earn 6,719.20 euros or even above this amount.

The right to extraordinary payments is included in article 46 of the General Law of Social Security (consultable at this BOE) where they explain that “the contributory pensions derived from common contingencies of any of the regimes that make up the Social Security system will be paid in fourteen payments, corresponding to each of the months of the year and two extraordinary payments that will accrue in the months of June and November.” In such a way that at the end of November the extra Christmas pay will be paid and, at the end of June, the summer pay.

With this, a pensioner who receives a pension of 1,600 euros per month will receive an extra payment of 1,600 euros, so he will receive 3,200 euros gross in the bank. In the case of collecting the maximum pension, 3,359.60 euros, you would receive 6,719.20 euros gross, which will be charged at once to the bank account.

Now, those who receive more than the maximum pension, either because their retirement has been delayed or because they receive the supplement to reduce the gender gap, may receive more than that amount. Example: a retiree who receives the maximum retirement and widow’s pension, 3,359.60 euros, and, in addition, receives a gender gap supplement of 147.60 euros for having four children, would receive 7,014.40 euros with the extraordinary payment.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, 188,528 pensioners in Spain receive the maximum pension or above it. In the case of non-contributory retirement and disability pensions, they are also entitled to extraordinary payments, which are also collected in the same months.

What day is the pension and extra pay collected?

Although the General Treasury of Social Security always pays pensions in arrears, its website explains that most banks and banking entities decide to advance the deposit a few days. Thus, pensions will generally be paid between November 22 and 26.

Which pensioners do not receive extra pay?

Pensions for permanent disability, widowhood or orphanhood resulting from a work accident or an occupational disease do not charge extraordinary pay, since this is collected prorated throughout the year in the 12 payments.

Nor do those whose pension is recognized with effect from December 1st receive it. This is because Social Security requires that a part of the accrual period be computed. There are two periods: one that goes from December 1 to May 31 and another that goes from June 1 to November 30. For each month, the right to one-sixth of the extraordinary pay for the accrual period is generated.

The BOE publishes the aid of up to 144,242 euros that the families of the Urda victims can collect, changes in sick leave and improvements in orphan’s and widow’s pensions

A granddaughter collects 61,834.46 euros from her deceased grandmother’s widow’s pension for six years, the court acquits her twice and the Supreme Court sentences her to two years in prison

To understand it, if a pensioner receives a pension of 2,000 euros and only generates three months of the accrual period, he would receive 3,000 euros this month, which would be 2,000 euros of pension and 1,000 euros of extraordinary pay.
