The Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) opens the deadline on November 5 to request one of the 199,000 places in its Thermalism Program. Thus, those retirees and pensioners whose doctor has advised them to enjoy medicinal thermal waters as part of a treatment to improve skin or joint ailments, will be able to enjoy one of the 87 spas spread throughout Spain and, best of all, at very low prices.
The stays are 10 days and 9 nights and departures are scheduled between February 1 and December 14 at a very low price when the services they offer are taken into account since they cost between 322 and 477 euros per person. This covers accommodation, food, a medical examination that takes place shortly after arriving at the facilities, thermal treatment and leisure activities.
The insurance policy is also included, as reflected on the Imserso website. Of course, unlike the Social Tourism Program, in this case it will be the users themselves who must travel to the spa. But there is a reservation that appears in Annex III where it is contemplated that “transport from the location agreed with the spa to the thermal station at the beginning and at the end of the shift will be borne by the spa.”
The Thermalism Program will take place between February and December 2027
The development of the Thermalism Program will take place during the period between February and December 2027 and the accommodations are usually within the thermal complex offering double rooms with a full bathroom and shower, heating and hot water, dining room, television room and social rooms where the elderly can meet and carry out leisure activities.
It is essential, if you want to participate, to send the application within the deadline set by Imserso. That is, they must be submitted according to two established dates, which are November 5, 2026 and October 31, 2027. As stated in article 5 of the call published in the BOE There are two types of registration.
The first of them is to participate in the process of allocating places, which is for the shifts from February to August until December 5, 2026 and for the months from September to December, until May 12, 2027.
In the case of the waiting list for places, for shifts from February to August until May 11, 2027 and from September to December until October 31, 2027.
Requirements to travel to spas with Imserso
The Imserso Thermalism Program helps retirees and pensioners who have received a prescription for the treatments provided in spas but who also meet certain requirements that appear in the Official State Gazette. If this is the case, they will be able to enjoy stays at ‘low cost’ prices.
Now, many wonder if they will be able to participate in this program. To do so, they must be residents in Spain and pensioners of retirement or permanent disability from Social Security, widowed at 55 years of age or older or for other reasons, and beneficiaries of unemployment benefits or subsidies at least 60 years of age.
Those who are insured or beneficiaries of Social Security over 65 years of age, and Spaniards residing abroad who meet the established requirements may apply for these places. In any case, they must fend for themselves for basic activities of daily living, need thermal treatments or have no medical contraindications and meet the necessary score to obtain the place.
They may be accompanied by their spouse
Those who are beneficiaries of one of these trips may travel accompanied by their spouse or common-law partner even if they do not meet the age or pension collection requirements. They must fend for themselves and have no contraindications to receive the treatments. In the event that children accompany them, they must prove a disability equal to or greater than 45% and be in the same shift and room as their parents.
