In 2027, all contributory and non-contributory pensions will be revalued in Spain in accordance with the CPI and, in the case of the minimum pensions, they will do so above this index. The minimum widow’s pension for people aged 65 or over without dependent children would go from 936.20 euros per month in 2026 to approximately 1,018 euros by 2027, which is about 82 euros more, and that of those under 60, from 709.40 to about 772 euros.
Article 58 of the General Social Security Law includes the revaluation of pensions in accordance with the Consumer Price Index (CPI), but, in the case of these minimums, section 4 of the fifty-third additional provision of the same law It says that, “once revalued, they will be increased additionally each year” by half of the extra percentage received by the reference pension (retirement with a dependent spouse).
This “extra” increase should be enough for the reference to reach the level in 2027. poverty line for a two-adult household, approximately 1,433 euros per month in 14 payments (approximately 20,059 euros per year), which is also the minimum widowhood with dependent children.
Although the increase for 2027 is not published, an estimate can be made. With Funcas’ inflation forecasts, the revaluation of pensions in 2027 would be around 3.5%, so the reference pension would be a little more than 10% short of reaching that threshold, so that the minimum unencumbered widow’s pension would receive just over 5% extra, so the total increase would be around 8.8%.
In the event that the general increase was 3.6% (the other figure that is being considered after the CPI for the month of October), it would be little noticed. Even so, all of these are estimates, since the final CPI data will be released on December 15 and the acting Government or the one that emerges from the November 29 elections must publish the decree with the increase and the percentage of these.
The minimum for widows under 60 years of age would reach about 772 euros per month
Social Security has three types of minimum widow’s pensions for those who do not have family responsibilities (children under 26 years of age who live with them or adults with a disability of at least 33%, or children under 18 who are fostered, with limited income), which increase by the same percentage.
| Minimum widow’s pension (euros per month, 14 payments) | 2026 | 2027 with 3.5% | 2027 with 3.6% (indicative data) |
|---|---|---|---|
| With family burdens | €1,256.60 | €1,432.80 | €1,432.80 |
| 65 years or older, or disability of at least 65% | €936.20 | €1,018.22 | €1,018.69 |
| From 60 to 64 years | €875.90 | €952.64 | €953.08 |
| Less than 60 years | €709.40 | €771.55 | €771.91 |
It must be taken into account that, according to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, of the total widow’s pensions, almost nine out of ten (2,055,096 out of 2,344,467, 87.7%) are held by someone aged 65 or over, 135,776 (5.8%) are for people aged 60 to 64 and 153,595 (the 6.6%), those under 60, which are those with the lowest minimum.
The minimum only arrives if the other income does not exceed the limit
Generally, pensions that do not reach the minimum are completed with the complement to minimumswhich is the difference between the resulting pension and the minimum, and which Social Security pays to reach this. As it is a supplement to ensure that pensioners have a minimum income, Social Security sets an income limit (not counting the pension itself), which for 2026 is 9,442 euros per year, and above it the supplement is reduced until it disappears. Just as pensions and living standards rise, so does this limit.
According to the latest data, in October, 547,934 widow’s pensions included this supplement, or in other words, almost one in four. Furthermore, in the case of collecting another pension, such as retirement, Social Security adds both amounts and only supplements when that total does not reach the highest of the minimums, as stated in article 16.1 of Royal Decree 241/2026.

Social Security closes September with a surplus of 7,125 million euros thanks to the increase in contributions

Social Security recognizes the widow’s pension that it denied to widows of de facto couples with children, but they have to request it until October 2027 and without collecting arrears
Furthermore, from the age of 65, the widow’s pension goes from 52% to 60% of the regulatory base if the widow or widower does not have the right to another public pension, does not have income from work and does not exceed the income limit set for that year.
