Conflicts between neighbors can start with seemingly small situations and, on many occasions, have to do with pets that sneak into the garden next door. This is exactly what has happened to some neighbors in Ireland, where one of them has taken the owner of the house next door to court because she claimed that her cat continually sneaked into her garden to relieve herself.
According to reports from the Irish media The Irish Timesthe owners of the home reported that their neighbor’s cat, named Coco, continually used their garden as if it were a sandbox, a situation that ended up causing an increasing confrontation between both parties.
The couple finally decided to go to court to claim compensation for the inconvenience and also ask that the owner keep the cat under control so that it would stop entering her property.
They initially obtained compensation of 6,000 euros
The owner of the animal did not accept the accusations and in turn filed a claim against one of the neighbors. According to her version, the man had been harassing her by repeatedly coming to her home to complain about the cat’s behavior.
In a first procedure, the court agreed with the owners of the garden and awarded them compensation of 6,000 euros, while rejecting the claim presented by Coco’s owner.
However, the woman appealed that decision and the initial sentence ended up being annulled. After the procedure, the owner explained that she felt she had few alternatives and ended up looking for another home for the cat.
The judge in charge of closing the case was harsh in his statements and pointed out that “a court of law is the last place where a dispute between neighbors should end,” he said when ending the case.
