Once the Easter holidays are over, the work and school calendars of the Autonomous Communities of Aragon and Castile and León They contemplate a new holiday that, in the case of schools, will mean a bridge. During this month, educational centers will hold a four-day school bridge to celebrate April 23.

As far as work is concerned, it will be a holiday but there will be no long weekend. That is, you will not have to go to work that day, which this year falls on a Thursday, but you will have to go to work the next day.

What is celebrated on April 23 in Aragón and Castilla y León

In Castilla y León, April 23 is the holiday of the Autonomous Community and commemorates the Battle of Villalar in 1521. The troops of King Charles I defeated the Castilian commoners. The center of the celebration is Villalar de los Comuneros, a place that was decisive and where the anniversary of this battle is commemorated.

In Aragon, Saint George’s Day is celebrated, a tradition strongly linked to the 1096 battle in Alcoraz where legend has it that this saint helped the soldiers to reconquer the province of Huesca.

Next May 1 will be the first ‘bridge’ in the rest of Spain

The rest of the Autonomous Communities will have to wait until May 1 to find the first holiday in the school and work calendar, and it will be the Labor holiday. This year 2026, the work calendar has 14 holidays, of which 9 are for all of Spain.

Among them, August 15, which is the day of the Assumption of the Virgin, October 12 when the National Holiday is celebrated, November 1 (All Saints’ Day), December 8 (the Immaculate Conception) and December 25, Christmas.
