Spain continues below the European average
Spain continues to maintain fuel prices lower than the European average. According to the latest Petroleum Bulletin of the European Union, the average price of gasoline stands at 1,871 euros per liter in the European Union and 1,930 euros in the eurozone, clearly above the 1,541 euros registered in Spain.
Something similar happens with diesel. The European average reaches 1,930 euros per liter and in the eurozone it reaches 1,976 euros, while in Spain the average price remains at 1,717 euros.
This difference is mainly explained by the lower tax burden applied in Spain on fuels. Although the base cost of fuel is similar to that of other European countries, excise taxes on hydrocarbons and VAT continue to be lower than in countries such as France, Germany, Italy or the Netherlands, which allows the final price at Spanish service stations to remain more competitive.
