The average price of electricity for this Monday, May 11, 2026 for consumers with a regulated or indexed rate in the free market, shoots up to 135.70 euros per megawatt hour (euros/MWh), according to data published by Red Eléctrica. It should be remembered that these amounts refer to the PVPC (Voluntary Price for Small Consumers), an amount that varies from that published by the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE) where the wholesale market data for May 11 is reflected, which are usually lower because they do not include concepts such as taxes and tolls.

Peak, flat and valley sections of the 2.0TD rate
The 2.0TD access rate with mandatory time discrimination, applicable to all domestic supplies with contracted power less than 15 kW, divides the day into three differentiated periods that affect both the power term and the access tolls. The peak section concentrates the highest prices and is between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on weekdays.
The flat period, with an intermediate cost, covers the periods from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from 10:00 p.m. to midnight, also from Monday to Friday. For its part, the valley section occupies the night time between 00:00 and 8:00, as well as all weekends and national holidays included in the official work calendar.
This segmentation does not determine the price per kilowatt hour of the PVPC, which is updated every day with data from the wholesale market, but it does determine the fixed amount that each consumer pays for contracted power and tolls regulated by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC). Adapting the consumption of higher-power appliances to the off-peak sections makes it possible to reduce both the variable and fixed components of the electricity bill.
