The price of fuel in Spain registers a small increase, accused by the volatility experienced by international energy markets. However, after the severe rise in crude oil prices resulting from the blockage in the Strait of Hormuz, the price of a barrel has experienced a downward correction of close to 8%, placing Brent once again at around $101. This sudden decline in futures markets responds to the growing optimism of investors regarding the progress of diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran, whose possible agreement, supported by Donald Trump’s administration, would end the armed conflict and allow the reopening of one of the main arteries of global oil trade.
According to the latest data from European Union Oil Bulletinthe average price of 95 gasoline stands at 1,528 euros per liter, compared to 1,503 euros from the previous weekwhich represents an increase of 0.025 euros. In the case of diesel, the price also increases to 1.735 euros per liter, above the 1.727 euros registered seven days ago, that is, 0.008 euros more.
It’s official: The price of gasoline recovers its pre-conflict level in Iran and diesel plummets to 1.71 euros

Behind it is Beroil located in Rincon de Soto (La Rioja), on Carretera Arnedo Km. 40 with a cost of 1,429 euros per liter; and the Ballenoil located in Massanassa (Valencia), on Poliesportiu Street, where it is 1,474 euros.

Spain, below the European average
Spain continues to maintain lower prices than the European average. According to the latest Petroleum Bulletin of the European Union, the liter costs on average 1,861 euros in the European Union and 1,913 euros in the eurozone, compared to the 1,528 euros set by Spain.
Similar thing happens with diesel. The average is 1,975 euros per liter in the European Union and 2,017 euros in the eurozone, while in Spain it reaches 1,735 euros.
This difference is fundamentally due to a lower tax burden. Although the base price of fuel (before taxes) is similar or sometimes even slightly higher than that of other surrounding countries due to refining and distribution costs, the taxes applied to the final product, specifically the Special Tax on Hydrocarbons and VAT, are notably lower than those of countries such as France, Italy, Germany or the Netherlands. Thus, Spanish fiscal policy cushions the final cost and allows the price at Spanish pumps to remain systematically below the European Union average.
