It’s official: the Community of Madrid grants financial aid to workers laid off before retirement

The Community of Madrid has activated a line of subsidies aimed at offering financial coverage to workers who lose their jobs due to company restructuring processes.

These aids, managed by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, are designed to act as a financial bridge for those employees who are at a stage close to ordinary retirement but who have been dismissed through regulation files.

The financing mechanism is shared: the applicant company assumes 60% of the cost of the aid, while the remaining 40% is borne by the regional government. This measure aims to ensure that the impact of dismissal in the years prior to retirement is less, guaranteeing economic stability for Madrid citizens who find themselves in this situation of employment vulnerability.

Requirements to access help

For a worker to benefit from this coverage, strict conditions must be met by both the company and the employee:

  • Location: Workers must have provided their services in work centers located within the Community of Madrid at the time of termination of their contract.
  • Cause of dismissal: The departure from the company must be motivated by a business restructuring process (collective dismissals).
  • Business processing: The company is responsible for completing the initial application for the recognition of workers.

A relevant aspect for beneficiaries is that this procedure does not require the payment of any administrative fee.

Documentation and resolution deadlines

The administrative process is carried out electronically through the electronic registry of the Community of Madrid. Companies must provide, along with the application, the ratification of the recognition of the employees and their agreement to benefit from the subsidy.

In the event that the company chooses to split payments, the website details that it must present guarantees to respond to the payment of pending obligations, either through guarantee or insurance.

Regarding response times, the Administration has a maximum period of three months to notify the resolution, only if the specific regulations do not establish a different period. It is important to note that, if after this time there is no express response, the administrative silence of rejection is applied, which means that the request would be considered denied, opening the period for the corresponding appeals.

Amount and regulations

The exact amount of the aid depends on individual circumstances and the restructuring process, data that can be consulted in the annexes to Order 17203/2014, which is the current regulations that govern these special subsidies.

Interested workers can track their file through the Community’s ‘File Status Consultation’ portal, where it is possible to provide additional documentation or receive notifications through an enabled electronic address.
