More than 1,270 watts of renewables receive construction authorization in the first quarter
During the first quarter of 2026, public administrations authorized the construction of 102 renewable energy projects in Spain, with a total power of 1,272.7 megawatts (MW), according to data collected by Opina 360 from the BOE and regional bulletins. Almost all of this new capacity corresponds to photovoltaic solar energy, which represents 97.6% of the total (1,242.1 MW), while wind power lags far behind with just 30.6 MW.
By territory, Andalusia clearly leads the new authorized power, reaching 632 MW, followed at a great distance by Aragón (163.5 MW), Murcia (115 MW), the Valencian Community (106.8 MW) and Castilla y León (102.3 MW). In contrast, Cantabria, Galicia and La Rioja have not granted any authorization in this period, which reflects an unequal territorial distribution in the development of new projects.
Despite these figures, the report warns of a significant slowdown in the pace of renewable implementation. The authorized volume is less than half that registered in the same quarter of the previous year and, in addition, projects have been rejected for a power greater than that approved: in total, 84 initiatives totaling 1,756 MW, mainly due to unfavorable environmental reports or due to the withdrawal of the promoters.
