New international health alert on baby foods. Several supermarkets in Europe have ordered the withdrawal of Hipp brand baby food after detecting packaging manipulated with dangerous substances, which has forced them to activate emergency protocols and ask families not to consume certain products.
The alert began in Austria and, as confirmed by EuroNewseverything points to deliberate manipulation with rat poison and a possible blackmail attempt behind these events.
What has happened to the recalled baby food?
Austrian authorities began the investigation after receiving a tip about the possible presence of contaminated jars in a supermarket in the Burgenland region. As a preventive measure, the Spar chain removed all affected children’s products from its stores before opening.
In addition, other chains such as TESCO have also recalled products after similar cases were detected in their stores, thus expanding the scope of the alert.
The authorities have warned of the seriousness of the case, pointing out that the consumption of these manipulated jars could endanger life.
They detect rodenticide and the alert extends to Europe
Investigations confirmed the presence of rodenticide in at least one of the containers analyzed in Austria. From that moment on, the alert was quickly expanded to other countries.
In the Czech Republic, two tampered bottles were found in a supermarket, while in Slovakia a suspicious batch is being investigated. Germany has also opened procedures after receiving information about possible contaminated products, although so far no cases have been found.
Investigators are working with the hypothesis of a criminal act, after the alleged perpetrator alerted via email, which reinforces the theory of possible blackmail.
How to identify poisoned baby food
The Police have asked citizens to check the products they have at home and exercise extreme caution. Suspicious packaging can be recognized by several signs:
- White sticker with a red circle at the base
- Damaged, open or poorly closed lid
- Absence of the “click” when opening the jar for the first time
- Strange or unpleasant odor in the contents
In the event of any of these signs, they recommend not consuming the product and notifying the authorities.
What risks does rodenticide have for health?
Experts explain that these poisons may contain substances such as bromadiolone, which affects blood clotting. This can cause bleeding, bruising or internal bleeding.
In addition, symptoms may appear delayed, between two and five days after ingestion, which increases the risk if not detected in time.
Withdrawals also outside Europe
Concern has even reached outside the European continent. Countries such as Vietnam have ordered these products to be removed from the market and have asked the population to stop using them while the distributed batches are reviewed.
Health authorities insist on the importance of carefully checking baby foods before consumption and remember that, if you have any suspicion, you should immediately go to a doctor.
