The price of housing does not stop rising in Spain and not only when it comes to buying a house but also for those who live in rent. In the opinion of the real estate agents on the increase in rental priceswe must add that of the economist and professor at the University of Barcelona, Gonzalo Bernardos, who has made his opinion clear about what is happening with the prohibitive prices that some tenants must face.
The rental market is shrinking and the apartments that remain available are more expensive. In a program on La Sexta Xplica, Bernardos explained that the real estate sector is suffocated, and has become inaccessible. Furthermore, he has taken the opportunity to rate the Government decree on housingsaying that it is “basically a posturing.” “Sumar and the Commons in Catalonia or Más Madrid are always with housing… trying to win votes but not solve the problem.”
If the real intention was to put an end to this situation, “they would change their policy.” Then, he reviewed how the situation was a few years ago. “If in 2018 2.2% of the population was concerned about housing, now it is more than 40%” who are uneasy.
He has appealed to the private sector “they are the ones who have the solution” since “the public sector, which has said it would build so many homes, is doing practically nothing, many statements, but few facts.”
“Many homeowners are going to sell their homes”
During the program, he warned the current tenants, “many of those who end their contract in 2027 will have to look for another home, because there are so many owners fed up with the Government’s impositions against them that they are going to sell that home.”
“It seems very good to me that rents rise little, as long as rents rise little, as long as the Government compensates the owners since they pay taxes and they do so so that social protection is provided by governments,” he said.
