Health orders these brands of smoked salmon to be removed from supermarkets in Spain and asks that they not be consumed

A new health alert activated. The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), dependent on the Ministry of Health, has warned of the presence of listeria in several batches of smoked salmon, present in different supermarkets in Spain.

Initially, the health authorities of Andalusia warned of the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon from the Skandia brand. However, this April 1, AESAN has expanded the alert, reporting that the affected batch has been marketed under other brands and presentations.

In fact, according to the information available, the products have been distributed throughout almost the entire national territory, with the competent authorities of the autonomous communities being informed of this through the Coordinated System for Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI), with the aim of verifying the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels.

The affected lots are from the Skandia, Gourmet and Carrefour brands.

AESAN Recommendations

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has recommended that people who have any of the affected products at home not consume them. If you have done so, and present symptoms compatible with listeriosis (vomiting, diarrhea or fever), they advise you to go to your health center.

If you are pregnant, ask to consult the recommendations for consumption during pregnancy made by the AESAN regarding important food hygiene practices for pregnant women, as well as a list of foods that should be avoided during pregnancy because they are associated with certain biological dangers (among which Listeria monocytogenes stands out).

Lastly, the Health agency has recalled “the importance of taking extreme hygiene measures to avoid cross-contamination with other products.”
