Long queues at El Corte Inglés to get the most desired torrijas of Holy Week: now with pistachio and tiramisu

Holy Week is a festival full of traditions: processions, steps and, of course, typical sweets. The gastronomy these days is varied and recognizable, with classics such as pestiños, roscos, fried milk… and the always-awaited torrijas. This dessert, which was traditionally made at home or in pastry shops, makes the leap this year to El Corte Inglés, where it arrives with a proposal that respects its essence and reinterprets it with new flavors.

El Corte Inglés thus reinvents the traditional torrijas recipe with contemporary touches, incorporating two trend-setting varieties: tiramisu and pistachio. To meet the high demand, the company produces nearly 550,000 units, concentrating a good part of its activity on these important dates.

To make it, the company uses large quantities of ingredients: 35,000 kilos of brioche bread, 1,500 kilos of bread, 8,300 liters of egg, 64,400 liters of fresh milk, 19,300 kilos of sugar, 35,000 liters of oil and 250 kilos of cinnamon sticks.

The process maintains tradition: the slices are soaked in milk, dipped in egg, fried and finished with sugar and cinnamon or a chocolate dip. The result is a product that stands out for its fidelity to the original recipe and the use of natural ingredients, such as fresh milk, cinnamon sticks or citrus fruits, which provide its characteristic flavor.

In addition, these torrijas can be found in cafes, pastry shops and in the prepared dishes section of your shopping centers.

Prices and formats of classic torrijas

At the moment, El Corte Inglés already sells its classic torrijas in different formats. The tray of 2 units (360 grams) has a price of 7.15 euros, which is equivalent to €19.86/kg. For its part, the tray of 4 units (720 grams) is sold for 13.25 euros, with a price of €18.40/kg. They can be purchased on their website through this link.

Both options are part of the “El Obrador” range and are presented as the traditional alternative while waiting for the price of the new varieties to be announced, such as tiramisu and pistachio torrija.
