West Ham are expected to fend off stiff competition from both Everton and Newcastle to secure the services of Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, talkSPORT understands.
The versatile Ivory Coast international was a revelation for the Clarets last season, despite their relegation to the Championship.
Cornet, 25, joined Burnley from Lyon in a deal worth £12.9million [€15m] last August, and amassed a total of nine goals and two assists in 28 appearances on his debut season at Turf Moor.
But he is on his way out of the Lancashire club after just one season, due to a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave for a set price following the club’s relegation to the second tier.
And talkSPORT’s Alex Crook reports the Hammers are prepared to meet that £17.5m fee and beat a number of Premier League rivals to his signing.
“I’ve been hearing in the last few minutes that West Ham are ready to activate the release clause in the contract of Maxwel Cornet at Burnley,” Crook told White and Jordan.
“£17.5m is enough to get him. This is that left-sided player they’ve been looking at for competition and cover for Aaron Cresswell.
“It looks like Cornet could be on his way to the London Stadium. They’ve seen off interest from Newcastle, Everton and Nottingham Forest.

“They are the only club who have agreed to meet the release clause. Newcastle wanted staggered payments, and Everton were looking at a loan. West Ham is the most likely destination.”
West Ham have been searching for a new versatile left-sided player who can also play at left wing-back, a bill which Cornet fits.
A move for the star would take the Hammers’ summer spending north of £100m, having already signed Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, and Gianluca Scamacca.
Should the London club secure his signature, it will likely spell the end to their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic.
The Serbian helped the German side win the Europa League last season, also securing the competition’s Player of the Tournament award, and West Ham been negotiating his move to the London Stadium for weeks.
However, those discussions have not moved forward as expected and West Ham are now ready to pull the plug if they get a deal for Cornet over the line.
West Ham take on Man City in their Premier League opener on Sunday.
