Ten Hag eyes first win amid Man United chaos as Eriksen faces old club Brentford

Manchester United travel to Brentford on Saturday looking for their first Premier League point of the new season.

Erik ten Hag’s reign got off to the worst possible start last weekend at Old Trafford, as Brighton turned in a brilliant performance to win 2-1.

The hosts were totally overwhelmed by Graham Potter’s men and looked lost.

Things haven’t improved this week as the Red Devils launched a move for former West Ham and Stoke City forward Marko Arnautovic but pulled out of the deal after fan backlash.

talkSPORT sources also understand Chelsea are now confident of beating United to Frenkie de Jong’s signature, so they could do with a morale-boosting win.

But the Bees won’t be a pushover, and despite losing Christian Eriksen to the Red Devils, they appear to have recruited wisely and have just added Mikkel Damsgaard to the ranks.

Thomas Frank’s side came from 2-0 down against Leicester to secure a draw last Sunday but haven’t beaten Man United since the 1936/37 season.

Brentford v Manchester United: Team news

The hosts have no injury concerns and could decide to give Damsgaard his Premier League debut.

Josh Dasilva might come into the starting XI after scoring the equaliser on Sunday.

The visitors could still be without Anthony Martial after he missed their opener with a hamstring problem.

The Frenchman impressed in pre-season, and in his absence, Ten Hag started Eriksen as a false nine.

Cristiano Ronaldo started as a substitute amid ongoing rumours about his future at the club, and due to him missing a big chunk of pre-season.

However, Ten Hag might decide to start the 37-year-old.

Meanwhile, the likes of Tyrell Malacia and Donny van de Beek will be pushing for starts.

Brentford v Manchester United: What has been said?

Thomas Frank after Brentford’s draw with Leicester: “I just think this group of players, they just have so much determination and their mentality is crazy in the way they worked their way back into the game.

“Of course we made a few changes and changes to the system with a lot of offensive players, but that’s something we’ve been practising, and we’ve wanted to do.

“Then the way it paid off was a fantastic feeling, especially with the story of Josh Dasilva.”
