‘Spoilt brats’ – Man United need their fans but abuse is making players scared

Manchester United fans have been described as ‘spoiled brats’ who are making their players ‘scared’ by giving them so much abuse.

United hit what many described as a ‘new low’ at the weekend, going 4-0 down to Brentford within 35 minutes of their Premier League meeting.

The Bees swept to one of their greatest ever victories by easily pressing their opponents into mistakes, leaving them shell shocked as the goals piled in.

The focus from many in Manchester, much like former player Gary Neville, has turned to the Glazer ownership when it comes to who’s responsible for such a bad start under new boss Erik ten Hag.

Protests are planned for the next home fixture against Liverpool with supporters planning to vacate Old Trafford, with increasing calls for the American family to sell the club.

Former Premier League midfielder Darren Ambrose isn’t too happy with the club’s fans, though, with the current talkSPORT host saying the abuse directed at players is part of their current malaise.

“United supporters need to get a grip, get in real life,” he said. “You’re dealing with what other football clubs deal with week in week out.

“Since the Premier League started, it’s now the 30th anniversary, Manchester United have won 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, two Champions Leagues and one Europa League.

“As a Spurs supporter, we’ve won two League Cups and got into the Champions League final once, that’s why I say they’re spoilt brats, you haven’t won a title since 2012/13, boohoo.

“This is the time that Manchester United need the supporters, they don’t need people booing, they don’t need social media putting out that Harry Maguire stood on the wrong side of the tunnel, no wonder they’re so scared going out there, no wonder Manchester United don’t win anything, the support base is just spoilt with winning so many titles.

“I understand the passion, I understand that’s the reason why, but this is football now, you’re on a transition and you need to build back up.

“You’ve spent an awful lot of money, you can argue it’s the ownership, you can argue it’s the players, I don’t disagree with either of those, something needs to change at the top, the players unfortunately are not the players of old, the manager is not Alex Ferguson.”
