Skipp set to miss “two or three” games after new injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp is set to miss more time on the sidelines having just returned to full fitness from a season-ending injury last season.

He picked up an injury in February earlier this year and returned to first-team action during the Lilywhites’ pre-season. A fracture during a training session means Skipp won’t feature for at least another 2-3 weeks for Spurs.

Conte speaking ahead of the game against Southampton said, “We have only Oliver Skipp in this moment that is not available for this game. I think also for two or three games. He has a fracture in his foot. For this reason, we need to have a bit of patience. He’s a bit unlucky.”

After returning from an impressive loan spell at Norwich City in the 2019/20 season, Skipp cemented his place in the first team under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo who was at the helm during the beginning of last season. The arrival of Conte in January saw the 21-year-old be a first-team regular for a month before he picked up a foot injury in February leaving the midfielder out for the rest of the season.

Spurs don’t lack squad depth in the middle of the park with Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre Emile-Hojberg, Harry Winks, and new signing Yves Bissouma being options for Conte. The Italian would be hoping to have a fully fit squad to start gaining momentum in the Premier League from early on to challenge along with their North London rivals Arsenal for a top 4 finish this season.

Spurs got off to a remarkable 4-1 victory on opening day against a disappointing Southampton side who were defensively all over the place thanks to yet another impressive display by Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski.

As regards to Skipp, a massive season awaits him once he is up and ready. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
