Nunez ‘a good boy’, says Klopp amid call for Liverpool man to get five-match ban

Jurgen Klopp admits Darwin Nunez deserved his red card but the Liverpool manager insists the forward is a good boy at heart.

Nunez was sent for an early bath for a crazy headbutt on Joachim Andersen during Liverpool’s draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The Reds boss insists the Uruguayan will be spoken to for his petulance but suggested this was an out of character outburst from Nunez.

“I haven’t said anything to him yet… when I saw it I of course saw that it was a red card,” Klopp told talkSPORT afterwards.

“We cannot change that and he cannot behave like that.

“He’s a good boy but did something not so good. We will talk to him and he will learn from that and we will carry on.”

On Sky Sports, Gary Neville says the 23-year-old will learn a lot from his mistake.

“He’s not helped his team out as much as he’s helped his team play really well before he got sent off,” he said.

Liverpool improved after Nunez’s dismissal, though they could not stop Luis Diaz firing excellently past Vicente Guaita to level the scores.

However, they are set to be without their big-money signing for at least the next three matches, and talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy thinks it should be more.

“The headbutt from Nunez, I personally think he’ll get more than three, I think he’ll end up with a bigger ban,” Cundy said on The Sports Bar.

“What he did tonight was a disgrace. Absolute disgrace.

“I think he should get a five-match ban. Violent conduct right there. Headbutting someone is an assault, that is an assault. He headbutted him.

“That to me is more than three games. What you saw him do could’ve broken Andersen’s nose.”
