Most stunning stat of all now emerges from Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 0

For many fans, there was maybe only one minor disappointment that came out of the Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 0 match.

That minor disappointment having been Newcastle failing to turn their complete domination into the goals that it deserved.

Two great goals ensured the three points but nobody watching the game would claim a four or five goal win could easily have been the outcome.

The evidence of your own eyes was than enough to tell you that Newcastle had controlled pretty much the entire game.

Whilst the basic statistics (see below) showed Newcastle with ten shots on target and zero for the visitors, whilst the corner count was 11 v 1 in NUFC’s favour.

Interesting though if you dig a little deeper and look at this table from the Other 14, who specialise in stats on clubs and players who aren’t the ‘big six’ clubs and players in the Premier League, as it shows how many touches in the opposition penalty area each PL (Other 14) team had at the weekend.

As you can see, Newcastle United had 28 more touches in the opposition penalty area than the next highest. Indeed, apart from Crystal Palace, Newcastle had more than twice as many.

Whilst at the other end of the pitch, Eddie Howe’s team restricted Forest to the very lowest number of touches in the opposition penalty area, only a miserly ten.
