Man United miss out on another target as Sesko signs for RB Leipzig

Manchester United have been dealt a blow after target Benjamin Sesko joined Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig on a five-year deal.

The Red Bull Salzburg striker will move to sister club Leipzig in 2023 and will spend the remainder of this season with the Austrian side.

The German side will pay a reported fee of around £20millon for the services of the Slovenian starlet which may prove to be a steal in the not too distant future.

He was been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his squad.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future still unclear, Ten Hag is looking for more firepower in attack and judging by United’s opening day woes against Brighton, Sesko would have fit the bill for the Red Devils.

But the striker’s decision to opt for a move to Leipzig over United will come as a blow and underline the club’s faltering pulling power.

Frenkie de Jong and Erling Haaland both turned down United’s overtures, whilst Ajax star Jurrien Timber was warned against a move to Old Trafford by former boss Louis van Gaal.

Sesko, 19, joined the Austrian champions from Slovenian side NK Domzale in 2019 and boasts a record of 12 goals in 39 games.

The Slovenian will make the often-trodden path between the Salzburg and Leipzig clubs and will link up with Timo Werner next season with the Chelsea striker expected to finalise his permanent switch back to the German side this week.

Sesko is the latest in a line of young forwards to make a name for himself at Salzburg.
