Leicester City star James Maddison should sign for Newcastle as the Magpies are ‘on an upward trajectory’, according to Danny Mills.
The former Premier League right-back turned talkSPORT co-host believes Maddison is better off progressing his career with the Geordies given the Foxes look to be ‘going downhill’.
Newcastle have bid £40million for the attacking midfielder, but Leicester turned the offer down and are reluctant to lose the star, reportedly valuing him at £60million.
Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers responded to the speculation over Maddison’s exit stating ‘he’s not a player we want to sell’.
But Mills thinks Maddison is better off joining the rebuild at Newcastle following their takeover last season, despite Leicester finishing three places above them last term.
“It’s a step forward,” he told talkSPORT. “You’ve got to look at where the two clubs are going.
“If you’re going to go off where they finished last year, okay, that’s the only argument that you have.
“But Newcastle is a club on an upward trajectory.”

The Foxes are also at risk of losing other star players as well as Maddison.
On Tuesday, centre-back and Chelsea target Wesley Fofana took Leicester out of his social media bio, perhaps signalling the end of his time at the King Power.
The 2016 Premier League champions are now the only side to have not signed anyone yet as they aim to keep within Financial Fair Play restrictions.
But whilst selling some of their key players will give manager Brendan Rodgers some cash to spend, Mills believes that losing the team’s nucleus could lead them slipping down the table next season.
“Leicester, at the moment, are on a downward trajectory,” he continued.
“They’re about to lose Kasper Schmeichel their goalkeeper, they’re losing players left right and centre, they still haven’t bought a player in. [Youri] Tielemans could go as well.
“So, Leicester at the moment look like a club heading down. Their recruitment has been non-existent.
“Newcastle, with everything they’re putting in place, building for the future – it’d be a great move from him [Maddison]. It’s the sort of player Newcastle fans would love, bit of creativity in midfield.
“If I was him I’d get myself on that A1 and start driving.”
