Liverpool shipping most goals for 25 years but Salah facing favourite foe Palace

Liverpool were forced to come from behind twice to rescue a 2-2 draw with Fulham last weekend but it marked a recent trend for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travelled to west London in what many assumed would be a walkover against the newly-promoted side.

Nunez and Salah prevented what would’ve been an alarming defeat

However, it was anything but as Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header had Fulham ahead as Liverpool fell behind for the fifth successive Premier League game.

The Serbian striker added a second after the break but goals either side from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah meant Klopp’s fabled ‘mentality monsters‘ once again avoided defeat.

But it is another example of Liverpool starting slowly, which exhibited itself during the run-in last season.

As the Reds looked to chase Manchester City for the title, the Merseysiders fell behind to Tottenham before sealing a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

The last three Premier League games of the season then saw Liverpool have to complete comeback wins against Aston Villa, Southampton and Wolves.

Liverpool also conceded first in their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid prior to their opening day draw with Fulham.

Should Klopp’s men see Crystal Palace open the scoring on Monday night – LIVE on talkSPORT – then they will equal their longest run of conceding first in successive Premier League games which came back in 1997.

Salah already got his defence of his Premier League Golden Boot off to a good start by continuing his theme of netting on the opening day,

And the Egyptian will be relishing the prospect of playing one of his favourite opponents Palace – with only West Ham feeling his wrath more.

Salah has been involved in 11 goals in 10 Premier League appearances against the Eagles (seven goals, four assists), with each of these coming in his last seven games against them.

Monday’s showdown between Liverpool and Palace will already be historic enough – taking place exactly 30 years to the day since the first ever Premier League matches kicked-off in August 1992.

It will be down to Salah and co to ensure they can score first and avoid some unwanted history of their own…
