‘It’s a bad joke’ – List of Man United transfers since 2013 leaves hosts baffled

Manchester United’s list of transfers since Sir Alex Ferguson left does not make for pretty reading.

The Red Devils have spent in excess of £1billion over the last nine years, but their trajectory has been a downward one.

Ferguson said farewell to United in 2013 after winning 13 Premier League titles

Last season, they finished sixth under interim manager Ralf Rangnick where they recorded their lowest points total in Premier League history.

All that money spent under successive managers has delivered little to no success, and the current players linked with United are unlikely to fill fans with confidence that this will change any time soon.

Adrien Rabiot looks likely to join in a £15m deal from Juventus, with personal terms still to be discussed.

Marko Arnautovic was the subject of a bid by the Red Devils, which was rejected by Bologna, and they subsequently decided to no longer pursue the transfer.

The rumours have sparked plenty of ridicule from fans an pundits alike.

So The Sports Bar hosts Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara went through the list one-by-one to see who was a success and who was not.

SPOILERS: There were many more in the flop column.

Cundy said: “I don’t know what is going on. It feels a bit like a circus. It feels like it is a bit of a bad joke.

“I’ve got a list of names they have signed since Sir Alex left.”

O’Hara added: “Are there any good one on there? Has anyone been a success? I’ll say yes or no.”

There were plenty more names that Cundy rattled through that O’Hara didn’t even have time to answer, there were just so many players on the list.

Those missed out were Dan James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I might have missed some out, but those are your big heads,” Cundy added.

O’Hara said: “There’s a lot of money spent, but I’ve got seven players who were a success.

“That is probably up for debate as well!”
