In the final stages of the match against Nottingham Forrest, with the toon cruising and Eddie Howe wanting to give all the subs a run out, he brought on Sven Botman.
To the Gallowgate’s great joy, he had a couple of touches – both roundly cheered, then jogged off at the final whistle.
What I and most of the crowd noticed, was that Sven Botman slotted straight into a back five, with three in midfield and two up front.
This may be me jumping to a huge conclusion based on very little evidence, which wouldn’t be a first…but are we toying with that as an option?
Possibly for away games where ASM has often proved expensive in possession and we haven’t had the two full-backs that we have now in place for any length of time.
Or for tough home games against top five sides who play a similar system, or when we want to kill games off when we have started four three three.
I realise it is a pretty big assumption to make on two minutes play in the sunshine, in a game already won, but everyone on the pitch seemed to know exactly what that were doing immediately…and under Eddie Howe, not a lot seems to happen that has not had extensive preparation.
I think the ideal team to give it a go against will be away at Brighton next week.
One of our bogey teams that have usually given us a football lesson when we have come up against them, though not against and NUFC under Eddie Howe.
