‘I’m going off grid’ – Rio Ferdinand says his ‘head hurts’ with Man United 4-0 down to Brentford

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was forced to go ‘off grid’ after the side endured an abject humiliation at Brentford on Saturday.

The Red Devils were 4-0 down after 45 minutes as they capitulated completely in west London.

United were shambolic in the first half at Brentford

Brentford took the lead after only 10 minutes thanks to a mistake by David De Gea.

The Spaniard allowed Josh Dasilva’s weak long-range shot to squirm through his hands and roll into the net.

De Gea was at fault again nine minutes later, selling Christian Eriksen short with a pass and allowing Mathias Jensen to nip in and double the lead.

Brentford were 3-0 up within half an hour when Ben Mee bundled the ball home at the far post from a corner.

It was 4-0 five minutes later when Ivan Toney teed up Bryan Mbeumo to finish past De Gea.

When the half-time whistle blew, social media was in a frenzy.

Ferdinand took to Twitter to give his thoughts.

“My WhatsApp groups are pinging off,” he began.

“Brentford are slapping us up….my phones going off….my head hurts….my heart…HELP NEEDED.”

He then added: “We are bottom….I’m going off grid.”

Ferdinand’s old teammate Gary Neville, working as co-commentator for Sky Sports, was all but lost for words.

Speaking after the fourth goal, he said: “What a first half of football we’re seeing here, the annihilation of Manchester United.”

When United boss Ten Hag appeared on screen, Neville added: “He’s got nothing to say, he’s got nowhere to go.

“What do you do a half-time if you’re Erik ten Hag? What can you possibly say to those 11 players who have been out there in the first half? What can you say?

“I think you’ve just got to send them out again, that would be it. I’m not quite sure what else he can do.”
