UFC star Paddy Pimblett feels vindicated after Dawrin Nunez came off the bench to help Liverpool win the Community Shield.
The Reds’ new £85m man scored his first big goal for the club as Liverpool made a big statement with a commanding 3-1 win over their Premier League title rivals on Saturday.
Erling Haaland, who is regarded by many as one of the best strikers in world football, had a day to forget in what was his first real game for his new club.
The £51m signing endured 90 minutes of frustration which was capped off with a stunning miss as he blazed the ball over the bar from close range with an open goal at his mercy.
Pimblett was happier than most after watching Liverpool win their first trophy of the season.
‘The Baddy’ is a massive fan of his local club and had made a pretty bold statement about Nunez before he’d even scored a goal for Liverpool, one which put him in the firing line.

“I think he’ll score more goals than Haaland this year,” Pimblett said.
“Haaland is very injury prone and I think he’ll miss a good portion of the season through injuries. I think Nunez is the type of player, he doesn’t miss games, he wants to play every game like [Luis] Suarez.”
After taking a ton of stick for his opinion, the 27-year-old MMA fighter was delighted to see Nunez score four goals in his very next game – a pre-season win against RB Leipzig – before watching him get on the scoresheet when it really mattered against Man City.
“He vindicated me the next night,” Pimblett told talkSPORT.
“I did that interview and was getting proper abuse on the internet. ‘Why even ask him about football?’ And then he scored four the next day against Leipzig in half an hour.
“Then obviously Haaland missed a sitter on Saturday, and Nunez scored, just proving me right. He’s gonna continue to prove me right all season, I know he is.”
When he’s not trotting around Europe watching his beloved Liverpool, Pimblett is one of the most exciting young prospects in MMA.
The former Cage Warriors champion, who has picked up three wins and a legion of fans since joining the UFC in 2021, is expected to fight on a big show in America later this year.
