Fulham hoping to tie up £8m deal for Roma star Kluivert – talkSPORT understands

Fulham are hopeful of making Roma winger Justin Kluivert their latest summer signing, talkSPORT understands.

Roma value Kluivert – son of Dutch legend Patrick – at £8million, a fee that would not deter the Cottagers in their quest to add firepower to their squad.

Kluivert began his career at hometown club Ajax before moving to Serie A in 2018

Kluivert signed for Roma in 2018 after club legend Francesco Totti made a telephone call to Kluivert Sr to convince his son to join the club.

However, the Dutchman failed to find his feet in the Eternal City and, as a result, has spent the past two seasons on loan with Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig and at Ligue 1 side Nice, registering six goals and assists times in 32 appearances last season for the latter.

Kluivert has two caps for the Netherlands to his name after earning a call up to the national team in 2018.

But a lack of international recognition in recent times has coincided with Kluivert’s struggles to recapture his best form and a move to west London could be the catalyst for him to relaunch his career.

Unlike his father, Kluivert is not a natural goalscorer, instead preferring to use his pace, trickery and vision to provide an assist.

Kluivert does not appear to be in Jose Mourinho’s plans ahead of this weekend’s big kick off in Serie A and Roma are not expected to stand in his way should their valuation be met.

Fulham have been active during this summer’s transfer window with the signings of Joao Palhinha, Andreas Pereira, Kevin Mbabu and Bernd Leno joining loanee’s Shane Duffy and Manor Soloman.

Boss Marco Silva looks to have a better balanced side compared to the club’s last top-flight campaign in 2020/21 and kicked-off the new season with a creditable 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool.
