Ex-Man United star says Rabiot’s questioned arrival is similar to legend Cantona’s

A former Manchester United player says his old club shouldn’t worry about rumours of Adrien Rabiot upsetting dressing rooms.

The Juventus midfielder is understood to be sorting personal terms ahead of a move to Old Trafford.

Rabiot has talent but also comes with baggage

However, Man United fans have been left questioning their club’s pursuit of the Frenchman. It’s been suggested he wouldn’t be a strong addition to United‘s midfield given he’s fallen out of favour in Turin.

In addition to this, he would also arrive with a questionable reputation, given his agent – his mother – has made headlines for her off-field antics, and him reportedly also being hard to work with.

But ex-Red Devils goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has hinted that his former teammate and Frenchman, Eric Cantona, also arrived at the club with question marks surrounding him, so fans shouldn’t think Rabiot immediately spells trouble.

Bosnich, who played at Old Trafford said on Tuesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast: “In terms of Rabiot, I watched him quite closely last year in the Champions League.

“A very, very talented player but has had a history unfortunately of not being very popular in dressing rooms.

“I don’t mean that as in because people don’t like him, but that shouldn’t weigh against him.

“I remember a so-called unpopular Frenchman coming from Leeds to Manchester United way back in the early 90s and absolutely dominating.

“So, he’s a very talented player there’s no doubt about that.”

Cantona, who played for United from 1992-1997, was known for his outlandish behaviour, both on the pitch and off it – with his kung fu kick on a Crystal Palace fan summarising his occasional attitude issues.

Nevertheless, Cantona was and remains an icon at Old Trafford, so Bosnich sees no need for fans to panic about Rabiot, who carries a similar reputation.

But whilst he believes Rabiot shouldn’t worry the United faithful, he does think Manchester United have bigger concerns to take care of.

After the club’s opening Premier League game defeat to Brighton, the jury is already out on new boss Erik ten Hag’s United side, just as it was at the end of last season.

And Bosnich explained he sees a missing piece to the Red Devils’ puzzle that was around during his time in Manchester.

He said: “You know when you feel your team are going to win, regardless if they’re 1-0 down or not you used to have that all the time.

“Well, not all the time, but the vast majority of the time at Old Trafford.

“That feeling has gone. Now you get the feeling, well, they look very, very vulnerable.”
