Ex-Man City star explains why Grealish ‘hitting ground running’ is so vital

Trevor Sinclair is hoping to see the best of Jack Grealish as he links up with new signing Erling Haaland at Manchester City.

Grealish arrived at the Etihad Stadium last summer in a £100million deal and showed his quality in fits and starts without ever really excelling during his first campaign at the club.

The 26-year-old netted six times and provided four assists in his first campaign with the club, but has looked much more potent during pre-season and appears ready to kick on in the upcoming Premier League season.

While Tony Cascarino has expressed his belief that the midfielder could find himself back at Aston Villa before long, ex-City star Sinclair is hopeful that Grealish will show his true quality under Pep Guardiola.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Sinclair said: “I’m hoping that I see the improvement this year because he’s got too much to just be alright, and that’s what his performances were for the majority of last season.

“Jack is a number 10. He’s one of these star players who gets fans off their seats and gives them excitement and we didn’t really see enough of that last season.

“We saw it against Real Madrid in the game where he came off the bench and was excellent, and I thought that should have been the catalyst to make him believe that he’s good enough this season coming and really hit the ground running.

“The season starts this week and I’m really hoping that he reproduces what we’ve seen him do at Aston Villa.”

Should Grealish find his best form, Sinclair believes that Erling Haaland will directly benefit as he looks to hit the ground running at the Etihad Stadium.

He said: “We will talk about Haaland and the chances that he missed but as a striker, it’s when you’re not getting the chances that you concern yourself.

“He’s getting the chances. I think his movement is excellent.

“The players aren’t quite used to when they need to play him in and all the bits and bobs, but when they get used to each other’s movements and the chemistry comes across then they’ll start picking him out. He’ll score bags of goals.”
