Wolves are in advanced talks with Chelsea over a season-long loan move for striker Michy Batshuayi, talkSPORT understands.

The Belgium striker, also wanted by Everton, has been lined up to cover injured Raul Jimenez and Chelsea are willing to pay a percentage of his wages.

After joining the Blues in 2016, Batshuayi has spent his entire career on loan since January 2018.

The 28-year-old spent the 2021/22 campaign at Besiktas and scored 14 goals in 33 league appearances.

He continues to be a key player for Belgium ahead of the 2022 World Cup this winter, scoring 25 times in 45 international appearances.

Batshuayi was open to joining former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard at Everton, who are desperately in need of attacking reinforcements following the £60million exit of Richarlison and an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, Wolves have now emerged as the favourites to secure his services for the upcoming campaign – which begins on Friday night.

Wanderers were forced into the market when first-choice striker Jimenez damaged his MCL in a pre-season friendly against Besiktas and the Mexican is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

Chelsea are also short of centre-forward options having failed to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku – who was recently sent back to Inter Milan on loan.

The Blues are likely to use Kai Havertz as their No.1 striker with Armando Broja as back-up, with Timo Werner’s future also in doubt amid links to Newcastle and RB Leipzig.

The Premier League is back and talkSPORT has it covered, with games on Friday, Saturday and Monday, beginning with Crystal Palace vs Arsenal on 5 August
