De Jong beats Barca speedster in race, as Chelsea set to beat Man United to deal

Frenkie de Jong’s game is about control and precision, but that does not mean to say he hasn’t got speed in his locker – as Chelsea fans may be about to find out.

Reports in Spain claim the Blues are set to beat Manchester United to the signing of the Netherlands international with an agreement ‘close’ with Barcelona.

De Jong got the better of Dembele in a sprint

According to Spanish outlet Sport, De Jong maintains he does not want to leave the Nou Camp this summer, but it’s reported Barca are close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea over his transfer.

Man United have had a deal agreed for De Jong for weeks, and yet he has stayed put. Manager Xavi and president Joan Laporta have both publicly said they want him to stay, but there are issues with the player’s contract with Barcelona demanding he accept a cut to his wages to continue at the Catalan club.

If he refuses, it’s said Barcelona will ‘invite him to leave’ with two Premier League clubs now in the race.

In a choice between United and Chelsea, it’s widely claimed the Blues would win given they can offer Champions League football and are willing to pay top wages under new owner Todd Boehly.

Ahead of Barcelona’s pre-season clash against Pumas UNAM, several stars were involved in a sprint towards the halfway line.
