Chelsea star Werner set for RB Leipzig return with Alonso and Hudson-Odoi on way out

Chelsea forward Timo Werner is set for a move back to former club RB Leipzig as their rebuild continues.

The German hasn’t had the desired impact at Stamford Bridge since his arrival in 2020 for £47.5million.

Werner is set to leave Chelsea after two years

Across two seasons, he managed 23 goals in 89 appearances, and was clearly out of favour after just one.

The Blues signed Romelu Lukaku last summer as they sought a more prolific forward but that move failed too with the Belgian now back on loan at Inter Milan.

Raheem Sterling is Chelsea’s big attacking signing so far this year, another clue Werner is unwanted by compatriot and manager Thomas Tuchel.

And the player himself made it clear he was at least thinking of leaving when spoke in pre-season.

“First of all, the most important thing is that I am happy. I am happy when I play and score goals,” Werner stated.

“That’s the fact. That’s what I should take care of and the other things will come. I could be happy everywhere.

“I think of course the manager always has different ideas, different thoughts and what you need in different games, I think in many games I was not in his thoughts so I try to change that.

“It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup.

“I think it doesn’t change anything whether it is a winter world cup or in the summer. I think if I play half or the season or the whole season, I should play.”

And now his exit is set to be confirmed, according to multiple reports.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has revealed Marcos Alonso is set to leave the club with a transfer to Barcelona on the horizon.

He said after their win over Everton: “He tries to leave and we agreed to this wish. That’s why it would not have made sense to put him on the pitch today. He would’ve been on the pitch otherwise but in this situation, it was the right thing to do.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi is also likely to quit Chelsea with Southampton and Leicester City credited with interest.
